I Tried The Ketogenic Diet And Failed…

In this video, I tried the ketogenic diet for one week and completely failed. The keto diet is one of the trendiest, and fastest growing diets at the moment stirring up controversy and conflict between health and fitness experts. Some people say the ketogenic diet will turn you into a fat burning machine and give you mental focus and increased energy… while others claim that it’s a terrible idea for your health. What is the truth?! In this video, I attempt to get to the bottom of it.

While many people think that the keto diet is just the latest health trend or “fad diet” I learned that it’s actually been around since the 1920s and was discovered by Dr. Russell M. Wilder as a way to treat childhood epilepsy. A clinical trial conducted in 2008 even found scientific results that support this.

The ketogenic diet was then revived a few decades ago by NASA and the Navy Seals and was then adopted by medical professionals and health and nutrition coaches as a way to achieve results for patients and clients.

The ketogenic diet has been shown to promote weight loss, increase energy and mental focus, and reduce hunger and cravings.

The ketogenic diet consists of high fat, moderate protein, and low carbohydrates in order to put the body into a state of ketosis where the body no longer uses carbs/glucose for energy, but ketones which are a compound released into the bloodstream from fat stores to be used as fuel when sugar is not present for energy. Some experts say that ketones are a superior form of energy for the brain and body than glucose.

While there is some research on the keto diet so far that shows promise, we still need more long-term human clinical trials to understand it.

For my keto experiment, I consulted with Dr. Jodi Nishida, a licensed pharmacist and keto coach who use the ketogenic diet in her clinical practice to help her clients lose weight, reverse diabetes and improve other health issues.

Dr. Jodi helped me develop a personalized keto meal plan which consisted of this daily macronutrient breakdown:

Carbs – 30 g
Protein – 100 g
Fat – 130 g

In this video, I explain why the keto diet didn’t necessarily work for me. However, just because it didn’t work for me, does not mean that it couldn’t work really well for other people! Our bodies are all so different and need different things.
